Promo Marketing

The Sales Scribe

As an Editorial Intern at Promo Marketing, my primary duties consisted of researching and reporting on the latest trends in promotional merchandise. Through Internet research and interviews I gathered information, analyzed it, and extracted the most relevant content for my pieces. This role required me to adapt the engaging voice of this publication and pay great attention to detail in writing and editing. I also performed administrative duties, such as data entry, as needed. Part-time Blogger, Full-time Style Fanatic

During the summer of 2012 I blogged for Lovelyish, a subhead of the Xanga blogosphere that focuses on fashion, beauty and popular culture. This was a virtual position, and using a CMS I wrote and entered 15-20 weekly posts while adhering to a schedule which I created. Because I was also  lifeguarding full-time, this took a measure of planning and organization. In my writing  process I researched current topics in fashion, beauty and entertainment, then wrote about them in a conversational and engaging manner. I was consistently among the top 5 contributors for Lovelyish. I credit this accomplishment with my ability to gauge which topics would be of greatest interest to my audience, combined with my readable writing style. I spent a lot of time on the lifeguard chair brainstorming potential post ideas for when I'd start writing. Click the icons to the left to get a look at some of the writing I did at Xanga. The Fitness Guru

As an English major, there were few opportunities for me to explore my longtime interest in fitness and nutrition through classes. I created my own opportunity by becoming an editorial intern at Get Fit Get Life, a newly founded website which focuses on exercise and healthy living. For a year I pitched a weekly article or blog post idea to my editor, and after receiving approval I would explore my chosen topic through Internet research and interviews with professionals in the health field. My pitch ideas were considered unique and appealing to readers. After they were published online, I used social media to share my work and spread word about the site. I learned so much through this internship and would love to incorporate fitness into a future career.
